UN-GROWN UPS!
2
Tim 3:1-5
3 This know
also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men
shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud,
blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without
natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce,
despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors,
heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a
form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
Nothing
makes the Bible come alive quite like modern politics – or, perhaps it is the other way
around. We have run into a wall called “perilous times” and we are, I think,
injured because of it. I’m not sure just how we skidded off the right path, but
this wall is painted with the graffiti of the times.
Self-love is the character of these times and
it is the result of failure to mature. Babies are almost totally
self-focused. Theirs is a small world filled with their own demands. As we age
we are supposed to notice others and include their needs in our thinking.
Hopefully, we learn to be courteous and sensitive.
Incontinence
is most
often thought of as a medical condition but it simply means a lack of
self-control. It gives vent to every urge without considering the inconvenience
we cause others. We demand that others keep us dry, powdered, and comfortable.
Phil
2:3-4
3 Let
nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem
other better than themselves.
4 Look not
every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
Dear
Lord, help me to be aware of the needs and concerns of others. Make me an
instrument of your mercy and grace. AMEN
