DO YOU HAVE A “BUG OUT BAG”?
Matt
6:33-34
33 But seek
ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall
be added unto you.
34 Take
therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the
things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
A bug-out bag or BOB is a
portable kit that normally contains the items one would require to survive for
72 hours when evacuating from a disaster, although some kits are designed to
last longer periods.
If you are moving, you may need a large truck for all your stuff but if you
are running you take only the most important things. Matthew, and Luke
as well, records the words of Jesus which urges believers to prioritize their
life.
Two things are essential. The kingdom of God is first in the bag. Moses is a
wonderful illustration of abandoning the earthly kingdom for the heavenly.
Heb 11:24-26
24 By faith Moses, when he was come
to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter;
25 Choosing rather to suffer
affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a
season;
26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ
greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the
recompence of the reward.
The second essential
is “his righteousness.” Adam Clarke
defines this as “That holiness of heart and purity of life which
God requires of those who profess to be subjects of that spiritual kingdom.”
Choosing the “kingdom” defines the life. If Moses had chosen the kingdom
of Pharaoh, his life would have been one of AFFLUENCE but when he chose the
kingdom of God the result was AFFLICTION. Of course, Moses had a future view
which included REWARD.
When the going gets tough
the tough gets going. If you must leave everything else behind, don’t forget
your bug out bag! “All other things will be added unto you.”
Dear Lord, let me make good choices
for I may need to bug out in a hurry! AMEN
