A SWORD IN THE FAMILY!
Matt
10:34-36
34 Think not
that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
35 For I am
come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her
mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
36 And a
man's foes shall be they of his own household.
The
expectation of the Jews
was a Messiah who would bring political peace and economic prosperity by
overthrowing the Roman occupation. Jesus doused those flames by predicting a
sword instead.
When
a person believes on Christ,
he immediately becomes part of a war. He did not start the war and may think it
strange to be part of a conflict, but God declared war on Satan in Genesis
3:15. Declaring for God makes one an enemy of Satan and many new
converts are shocked to discover this.
The
word “variance,”
in verse 35 is the Greek dichazo which literally means “to
part asunder.” It is both sad and shocking to discover the discord that
can develop immediately upon aligning with Christ. The word “foe” in
verse 36 indicates hatefulness and odious, hostile activity. Sons and fathers, daughters and mothers,
should not be fighting. It is heart breaking.
Col
1:20-21
20 And,
having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all
things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things
in heaven. 21 And you, that were sometime [not occasionally but
formerly] alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he
reconciled
Dear
Lord, bring peace to our homes and families today. AMEN
