MIND YOUR MONEY!
1
Tim 6:9-12
9 But they
that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and
hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10 For the love
of money is the root of all evil: which while some
coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with
many sorrows. 11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and
follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
12 Fight the
good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art
also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
In
the midst
of instructions and warnings from the seasoned Paul to the neophyte, Timothy,
we see the very practical admonition regarding money. Everyone needs some, and
some seem to need all. It is both a necessity and a trap.
It
is not the object
but the emotional attachment that causes problems. They that focus on money
will never have enough and will never be happy with what they have. Happiness
is just a dollar or two more.
Paul
reminded Tim
that he was a “man of God.” This was to be his focus. He was to “lay hold” not
on money but on eternal life. It was his calling! That being said, it is a
biblical principle that the workman is worthy of his hire. It is also important
never to hire a “hireling.” The whole system requires discernment, sensitivity,
and integrity.
Prov
3:27
27 Withhold
not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to
do it.
Dear
Lord, give me a generous and sensitive heart along with a will and energy to
work. AMEN
