THEY CONSIDERED NOT!
Mark
6:50-52
50 For they
all saw him, and were troubled. And immediately he talked with them, and saith
unto them, Be of good cheer: it is I; be not afraid.
51 And he
went up unto them into the ship; and the wind ceased: and they
were sore amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered.
52 For
they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was
hardened.
The
disciples
had just experienced a terrifying, wonderfully encouraging, and life-changing
event. In all that they had experienced, they forgot something very important.
They forgot to remember!
New
challenges
seem to wipe our memories clean with fresh terror. Previous “impossible”
situations which concluded with miraculous and beneficial endings are lost in
the immediacy of the danger. This is the point of verse 52. The miracle of the
loaves was not part of their mental calculations.
I
can’t know
what you, reader, are going through this morning. Many of you are once again
faced with a monstrous challenge. As you weather this fresh storm, don’t
forget the previous miracles of God in your life.
1
Sam 7:11-13
11 And the
men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them,
until they came under Beth-car.
12 Then
Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of
it Ebenezer, [Ebenezer = a stone of remembrance; a memorial] saying, Hitherto
hath the Lord helped us.
13 So the
Philistines were subdued, and they came no more into the coast of Israel: and
the hand of the Lord was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.
Lord,
in my distress, let me never forget the many previous miracles you have
performed for me. AMEN
