LORD, SAVE ME!
Matt
14:29-32
And when
Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. 30
But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he
cried, saying, Lord, save me.
31 And
immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him,
O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
32 And when
they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
Jesus
appears during a storm
on the Sea of Galilee. He had come down from the mountain, walked across the
beach, and kept on walking. The disciples, when they saw Him, thought he was a
spirit and cried out in terror. Jesus responds by saying, “It is I; be not
afraid.”
Now
we see Peter ask for confirmation of Jesus’ identity by requesting a miracle. He said “Lord,
if it is really you, then bid me come to thee on the water.” Jesus said, simply
“COME!”
Peter
climbs down
from the storm-tossed boat and begins walking toward Jesus on the water. Was
this a dream or some trance? No, Peter was being held firm atop the water. This
defies natural law! Peter then considers his circumstances. He was buffeted by
the wind and sprayed with water. Perhaps he saw a lightening flash and he began
to sink.
Convinced that what he was experiencing was
real, Peter cries out to his Lifeguard for rescue. Jesus reaches down and takes
Peter by the hand. Now the water was holding not only the weight of Jesus but
Peter as well.
Dear
Lord, there are so many distractions that we often are in over our head. Thank
you for saving us when we cry. AMEN
