SHELTER IN PLACE!
Ex
12:12-13
12 For I
will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the
firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of
Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord.
13 And the
blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see
the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to
destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
We
are currently seeing
an almost insane response to a global plague. Bewildered, we watch some hoard
what they consider to be essential supplies while others try to maintain some
normalcy in their lives. I saw one man searching for a simple soap dish while others
were clamoring for the last of whatever was left on the shelf.
I’ve
been told
that I am at a greater risk than others because of my age. Social
distancing is against my nature and contrary to my calling
but I am warned to shelter in place.
The
Jews were also told to shelter in place. They were to take a lamb and keep it for seven days
– shelter in place. They were to kill the lamb and splash the
blood on the lentil and door posts of their house. Then then were to hide
behind that bloody door while death ranged outside. Shelter in place behind
the blood.
Ps
62:6-8
6 He only is
my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.
7 In God is
my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in
God.
8 Trust in
him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge
for us. Selah.
Dear
Lord, suddenly our lives have changed. Our focus is on protection and safety.
We fear the comfort of community and forced aloneness is the suggested remedy.
We feel we have no control over the new threat that engulfs us. Let us hide
ourselves in Thee and shelter in place behind the bloody door. AMEN
