SERVANT—CHOSEN—FRIEND
Isaiah 40:30,31
Isaiah 41:1-10
No one likes to
feel out-of-control. The idea of struggle and futility is sprinkled over these two chapters,
but these exist along side of trust, rest, and renewed vigor. Both conflict and confidence can be found
here.
There are so many “gems”
here that we don’t always see the bigger picture. We cherish the promise
that “they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength” and it is
repeated again in 41:1 “let the people renew their strength.” Verse 7 reminds us of the importance of mutual encouragement. The carpenter
may know nothing of the skills of the goldsmith, yet he encourages him in his
work.
A wonderful verse
is often overlooked because it is set in the midst of so many others. It is verse 8 which tells us of the growing relationship God had with these people. First,
they were SERVANTS, and then they were CHOSEN, and finally they were FRIENDS. Verse 9 adds that God has not cast them away.
Finally, verse 10 reminds us of
God’s constancy. He is with us in whatever circumstance we find ourselves. Being
with us, He has promised to help us. The mention of His “right hand” speaks of strength
and warrior skills. Verse 12 explains that “they that war against thee shall be
as nothing, and as a thing of nought.” Ah! What a friend we have in Jesus!
What A Friend We Have In Jesus (4th stanza)
Blessed Savior,
Thou hast promised Thou wilt all our burdens bear
May we ever,
Lord, be bringing all to Thee in earnest prayer.
Soon in glory
bright unclouded there will be no need for prayer
Rapture, praise
and endless worship will be our sweet portion there.
Dear Friend Jesus, thank you for your constant presence and your help
in many troubles. AMEN
