CHARIOT WHEELS
Ex 14:24-25
24 And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the LORD
looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the
cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians,
25 And took off their chariot wheels, that they drave
them heavily: so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel;
for the LORD fighteth for them against the Egyptians.
Have you ever wondered
just how many miracles made up the crossing of the Red Sea? God took Israel the
“long way” around to avoid clashes with the locals. Then He positioned them in
an impossible military position with obstacles on either side, the enemy at
their back and a sea that could not be crossed.
Some have suggested
that crossing the Red Sea was crossing of a “reed” sea or a swampy land. Well,
if that is so, then God drowned an army in shallow water! Those doubters traded
one miracle for another.
The literal rendering
of “took off” was “clogged” which makes sense since the bottom of the Red Sea would
have been soft. The effect was to transform a chariot into a sled.
It is possible to remove the pure joy of this event by applying a doubting analytical mind. The facts still
stand. Israel crossed and Egypt did not. This is very encouraging to me. It
tells me that whatever God must do to make a way for me is exactly what He WILL
DO. He does not feel challenged by our analysis.
Eternal Father, Strong To Save (The Navy Hymn)
Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who biddest the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!
Lord, let me not doubt your wonderous ways as I endure my
mundane days, AMEN
