WHERE IS YOUR FAITH?
Luke
8:24-25
24 And they
came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose,
and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there
was a calm.
25 And he
said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid
wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth
even the winds and water, and they obey him.
Matt
8:26
26 And he
saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and
rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
God’s
command is also God’s promise! We are going to the other shore. No mention was made of the
conditions or circumstances along the way. I’m guessing that the disciples were
just as weary as Jesus, but they were toiling in rowing and He was asleep.
Things
were bad!
Winds had swept down from the mountains to the bottom of the bowl-like lake 600
feet below. Jesus seemed unaffected by the problem and uncommitted to the
solution. They woke Him so that, at least He could be awake while dying!
“Master we perish” was an admission of helplessness.
Jesus
now rubs salt in their wounds by asking about their faith. They had abilities that they
were not using. Matthew says that Jesus asked, “Why are ye fearful?” We usually
don’t stop to ask ourselves that question.
1
John 4:18
18 There is
no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath
torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
Dear
Lord, the circumstances of life are fearful but your promise is that we will
reach the other shore. In face, we are probably closer to the shore than we
think. Calm our storms and replace our fears. Restore our faith. AMEN
