243 YEARS!
2 Chron 7:14
14 If my people,
which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my
face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will
forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
I wonder if our founding fathers
could have imagined
our nation as it now is? The three branches of government which they designed
are now constantly at odds with one another. The supreme court hears and rules
on cases that has absolutely nothing to do with constitutional law. This body
seldom rules in unanimity and often one vote lays heavy burdens upon the
people. The legislative branch is divided into two groups neither of which seem
to know why they exist. But we labor on because this system, as imperfect as it
is, still works.
Our economy is growing and strangers invade our borders to
claim benefits we can ill afford to provide for our own citizens. We are lazy;
lounging in a utopia of excess and substance abuse. Our courts are overrun and
our prisons are overflowing.
Our churches are either embattled
outposts or huge houses of entertainment. Dignity has departed and has been replaced by vulgarity
and commonality. Morality has been redefined by the immoral and holiness has
been banished from the land.
Our schools teach a revised history and arrive at mathematical answers
through a maze of confusion. Our language has become guttural grunts. There is
no poetry. Music has no harmony.
God has never made a covenant with any other nation but Israel, but since Christian believers today
are God's people and called by His name, they can claim the promise of 2 Chronicles 7:14.
Dr. Billy Graham prayed this prayer: “Our Father and Our God, we praise
You for Your goodness to our nation, giving us blessings far beyond what we
deserve. Yet we know all is not right with America. We deeply need a moral and
spiritual renewal to help us meet the many problems we face. Convict us of sin.
Help us to turn to You in repentance and faith. Set our feet on the path of
Your righteousness and peace. We pray today for our nation's leaders. Give them
the wisdom to know what is right, and the courage to do it. You have said,
"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord." May this be a new era
for America, as we humble ourselves and acknowledge You alone as our Savior and
Lord. This we pray in Your holy name, Amen.”
