FOOTPRINTS OF JESUS
Ps 85:13
13 Righteousness
shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps.
Ps 119:133
133 Order my
steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.
Spurgeon talks about the bloodied
footprints of Jesus, easily tracked and followed. We find this concept
throughout the Bible. Thirty-eight times we see the word “steps” used in
various ways. Suffering Job pondered whether God marked his steps, and if so,
why was he suffering? (See Job 31:4)
Our first Psalm explains that
God knows the path ahead and chooses righteousness. He then “sets” us in his
own steps. The result is that we walk in righteousness, security, and
confidence.
Our second Psalm is a request or
prayer that God would order our steps. The word order is the Hebrew word kuwn (koon) and literally means “erect; to stand perpendicular.” This
request addresses two situations. One is the idea of being “perpendicular,” or
in correct standing with THE WORD. The other condition addresses iniquity,
primarily my own, but also the iniquity of others. Whether mine or thine, I don’t
want iniquity to dominate me.
FOOTSTEPS OF JESUS, by Mary B. Slade
Sweetly, Lord,
have we heard Thee calling,
Come, follow Me!
And we see where
Thy footprints falling
Lead us to Thee.
Refrain:
Footprints of
Jesus,
That make the
pathway glow;
We will follow
the steps of Jesus
Where’er they go.
Though they lead
o’er the cold, dark mountains,
Seeking His
sheep;
Or along by
Siloam’s fountains,
Helping the weak.
If they lead
through the temple holy,
Preaching the
Word;
Or in homes of
the poor and lowly,
Serving the Lord.
Dear Lord, let me follow you in a righteous path. Let me walk honestly
with myself and carefully with others. AMEN
