BEHAVING WISELY
1 Sam 18:11-14
11 And Saul cast
the javelin; for he said, I will smite
David even to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice.
12 And Saul was
afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and was departed from Saul.
13 Therefore Saul
removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out
and came in before the people.
14 And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the
LORD was with him. KJV
1 Sam 18:29-30
29 Saul was still
more afraid of David; and Saul became David's constant enemy.
30 Then the
Philistine princes came out to battle, and when they did so, David had more
success and behaved himself more wisely than all Saul's servants, so that his
name was very dear and highly esteemed.
AMP
The eighteenth
chapter of First Samuel revealed a nervous time for David when he was in the
court of King Saul. Victorious over his enemies, now David was in peril of his friends.
What was he to do? Behave wisely!
We are relatively
sure that we understand the meaning of the word “wisely” but it never hurts
to do a bit of research. The Hebrew word is sakal and, as we
suspected, means “intelligently and circumspectly.”
Warren Wiersbe reminds us that “Faith
is living without scheming.” Faith also requires no manipulation. However, it
is always wise to walk circumspectly and intelligently. Faith is not foolish; therefore
wisdom and planning are not only allowed but encouraged. You need not tell all that you know but you should know all that you
tell.
Phil 2:14-15
14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without
rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as
lights in the world. KJV
Dear Lord, help me walk wisely in a contrary
world. AMEN
