SOLIDARITY ISSUES!
Deut
22:10
10 Thou
shalt not plow with an ox and an ass together.
Sandwiched in the midst of a list of “don’ts” in
Deuteronomy we find a seemingly obscure commandment. At first glance it seems
to mean little or nothing and we can hardly determine its usefulness as a guide
for our daily lives. A closer look and some meditation is needed here.
Adam Clarke comments on this verse this way: “It is
likely that there was a physical reason for this; two beasts of a different
species cannot associate comfortably together, and on this ground
never pull pleasantly either in cart or plough; and every farmer
knows that it is of considerable consequence to the comfort of the cattle to
put those together that have an affection for each other.
The spiritual application is clearly
presented
by the Apostle Paul in 2 Cor 6:14 which declares: “Be ye not unequally
yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness
with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?” As churches
celebrate diversity, it must be mindful of the need for solidarity.
1
Cor 1:10
10 Now I
beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak
the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but
that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
Dear
Lord, because the consequences regarding Christianity is so serious, help me to
be a team player. AMEN
