BUMPS IN THE ROAD!
Prov
3:5-6
5 Trust in
the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy
ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Have you ever heard a slick-suited evangelist say words
like the following?
“God’s servants should encounter no—or
at worst, minimal—opposition while going about their ministry.
They should fly first class—or at worst, business class—and they
should stay comfortably when they get there. God, for his part, should ensure
that the man of God’s way is smoothed before him.”
I’ve heard words that closely
resemble these.
I think Paul would have laughed them out of their private jets!
Everywhere he went, Paul had trouble. He had trouble in travel, trouble from
those who misunderstood him, and trouble from those who understood all too well
but were just plain mean.
The servant is not above the Master [See Matthew 10:24] and if the world killed Jesus then we
should expect some discomfort and inconvenience along the way.
In Proverbs 3:6, the Hebrew word for “direct” is yashar and
means “to make straight; to cause to fit.” If we trust the Lord and question
our own understanding of the situation, He will straighten out the bumps in our
road. Most of the time things just look better in the morning light.
Dear Lord, bumps in the road jar our
faith. We become rattled. Help us not to develop a loose screw! AMEN
