DESPERATELY WICKED!
Jer
17:9
9 The heart
is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
Jer
13:23
23 Can the
Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good,
that are accustomed to do evil.
I should apologize for the sudden assault on your
morning calm but I have bad news and then good news. The bad news is that
Adam’s fall affected every one of us. The result is a desperately wicked heart.
The English modifier “desperately” is not found in the original but the word
“wicked” is of the worst kind. It means “incurable.”
Paul, in Romans 7, tried to describe his own agonizing
struggle against the human propensity to sin. He tries to do good but
does evil instead. The final verse is an explosion of frustration.
The good news is that Jesus is the only real
answer and cure. Even those who trust Christ as Savior will continue a
daily struggle – but he will have been given a new and different heart.
Ezek
11:19
19 And I
will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I
will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of
flesh:
Dear
Lord, the deeds of others can be shocking to observe but my deeds, well hidden,
are disappointing and frustrating as well. Thank you for the cure that is in
Jesus. AMEN
