CONFUSION!
1
Cor 14:33
33 For God
is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
Paull
is,
here, talking about the disorderly outcome of uncontrolled outbursts in the
church and, yet, we may apply this principle to our daily lives. We live in
confusing times and decision making often leads to second guessing. Caution
and patience is needed in times of confusion.
The Greek word for
“confusion” is akatastasia which means “instability and
disorder.” When decisions are critical and clarity is absent there are five
ways in which God guides us.
- Commanding Scripture (the Bible)
- Compelling Spirit (the Holy Spirit)
- Counsel of the Saints (the church)
- Common Sense (reason)
- Circumstantial Signs (providence).
Does the Bible clearly address your situation? If
so then the problem is not confusion but one of obedience or rebellion.
What does the Spirit – The
Holy Spirit – say to your heart? If you are a believer, you are promised this
personal guidance. Isa 30:21 “And thine ears shall hear a word
behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn
to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.”
What
do others think?
This is not as strong as other forms of guidance, but God very often uses the
counsel of others. Prov 15:22 “Without counsel purposes are
disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.”
What
do YOU think?
Is the decision you must make sensible? Common sense is not as common as is
often supposed. Think it through.
What
is weird?
Is anything going on that seems supernatural, uncanny, or strange? I know! This
sounds spooky but God is, after all, a Spirit and He may lead you by spiritual
means. Don’t look for signs behind every bush but when God provides a sign,
don’t ignore it.
Dear
Lord, today there may be many who are seeking guidance from you. For some it is
life changing. Protect us from making wrong or foolish decisions. Guide us
clearly. AMEN
