REJECTING THE MESSAGE!
Jer
32:2-5
2 For then the king of Babylon's
army besieged Jerusalem: and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of
the prison, which was in the king of Judah's house.
3 For Zedekiah king of Judah had
shut him up, saying, Wherefore [ OR WHY] dost thou prophesy, and say, Thus
saith the LORD, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of
Babylon, and he shall take it;
4 And Zedekiah king of Judah shall
not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be delivered into
the hand of the king of Babylon, and shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and
his eyes shall behold his eyes;
5 And he shall lead Zedekiah to
Babylon, and there shall he be until I visit him, saith the LORD: though ye
fight with the Chaldeans, ye shall not prosper?
Isa
30:9-10
9 … this is a rebellious people,
lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD:
10 Which say to the seers, See not;
and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things,
prophesy deceits:
Telling the truth
can make a person quite unpopular as Jeremiah discovered. He was “shut up” in
the prison for no better reason than telling the truth. Judah would be attacked
and overwhelmed by the Babylonians. Zedekiah the king would be a captive until
the Lord visited him. Oh, they would fight and struggle against this, but it
would do no good. This was the truth.
It is a shame
that many people prefer “smooth things” to profitable things. They prefer
deceits or lies to the truth. Most gladly would some exit this life to spend
eternity in misery and remorse if only they can be kept comfortable and worry
free to the end.
Isa
58:1
58:1 Cry aloud, spare not, lift up
thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house
of Jacob their sins.
Dear Lord, help me to be receptive
to the truth even when it is an uncomfortable truth. AMEN
