FOLLOW THE MONEY TRAIL!
Mark
14:10-11
10 And Judas Iscariot, one of the
twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them.
11 And when they heard it, they were
glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently
betray him.
Jesus was in
Bethany, in the house of Simon “the leper.”
A woman had just broken an alabaster box of perfumed ointment over Jesus. It
was “very precious” and costly. Someone – possibly Judas – said “Why was this
waste of the ointment made? (Mark 14:4) Three hundred pence would be valued at
between $300 and $400 in today’s value. That would have been an amazing amount
of money in Jesus’ time.
From that
moment Judas could think of nothing else
but money and he conspired to sell the Savior for thirty pieces of silver – the
price of a common slave – which translates to about half a year’s wages in
those days. Another estimates the value of the coins at $324.60 but the point is lost in the search for
relevance.
How much is
Jesus worth to you? “ For what is a man profited, if he
shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in
exchange for his soul?” (Matt 16:26)
Lord, let me properly estimate the
value of things. Let me choose the true riches. AMEN
