SIT
– WALK – STAND!
Sit! The idea in the
following verse is “to sit comfortably” with scorners. The word scorner means
“to make a mouth at.” The proper attitude is found in verse two. Here the
blessed man enjoys and thinks about the Bible at all times.
Ps 1:1-2
1
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth
in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2
But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day
and night.
Walk! The idea in the
following verse is the believer’s lifestyle. The word walk is the Greek paripateo
and means “to walk all about; to walk at large.” Your daily habits and
activities should reflect your redemption from sin and your relationship with
Christ. The one you have rejected and the other you have accept and cling to.
Don’t confuse them!
Rom 8:1
8
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who
walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Stand! The Greek word
for “stand” is histemi and conveys the idea of “standing firm” against
opposition. This requires the preparation of the whole person and the
utilization of every available piece of equipment. The setting is military in
nature and requires military precision and discipline.
Eph 6:13
13
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to
withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
So! Sit today with
Bible in hand. Meditate on the Law of God. Walk in His ways and be blessed.
After careful preparation, simply stand firm.
Dear
Lord, bless all those who sit where they should sit, walk as they should walk, and
stand in your strength. AMEN
