I KNEW IT NOT!

I KNEW IT NOT!

Gen 28:11-12
11 And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.
12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.
16 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not.

Jacob was on the run! Every good thing that belonged to his older brother he had either purchased at a discount or stolen outright. He was a scoundrel – like us.

Running wearied him as it always does and he lay his head on the softest stone he could find. He dreamed and heard the voice of God promise him things he did not deserve. Marvelous things!

Paul explained to the Romans that “even while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8). So it was with Jacob at the foot of the stairs of heaven. So it often is with us. We are pursued by and overtaken by God so that he could bless us with marvelous undeserved benefits.

God is in our self-made hardships but we usually do not perceive Him. Even when He reveals Himself we think it strange for God shows himself in the most mundane circumstances. Watch for Him. Surely the Lord is in this place!

Dear Lord, peel away the drapery of heaven that we may see marvelous things. Help us to know that you are there. AMEN
