EVIDENCE!

EVIDENCE!

Heb 11:1
11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

The word “evidence” is found in the Bible only seven times and six of those times it is found in Jeremiah chapter 32. Jeremiah had prophesied that the Chaldeans would conquer God’s people. Jeremiah – by faith – had purchased a piece of land knowing that losing a war would nullify any title deeds to property. The document, or evidence of purchase, would be valid only after Israel returned to her land.

The seventh time the word “evidence” is used it describes faith. We know that God exists because of those things that point to His existence. Paul points to those evidences in Romans 1:20 “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead.” Paul was saying that, though God is invisible, He has proven himself clearly by the things He created.

On this Thanksgiving eve, we look around at the evidence of God’s goodness toward us. We count our blessings and list them as evidence in the court of opinion regarding our God.  We know God is because we have evidence. We know that God is good because there is evidence of His goodness. We are surrounded by loving family and friends! Our table is laden with good things and the evil that others would have done to us has been deflected by the mighty and unseen hand of God so that those evil things have been turned into good.

Gen 50:19-20
19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?
20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

Rom 8:28
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Dear Lord, I am surrounded by evidences of your goodness! My pockets and my heart are full and I am compelled by these evidences to give you thanks. Amen
