WELL, THAT WASN’T IT
Heb 13:15
15 By him [by Jesus] therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to
God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
A. W. Tozer said “The church that
can’t worship must be entertained. And men who can’t lead a church to worship
must provide the entertainment.” Similarly, religious entertainment well done,
cannot satisfy the thirsty soul.
Have you ever stood before
the open refrigerator staring at the contents and wasting electricity? You
finally decide to reach for a left over something only to say, “Well,
that wasn’t it.” Such is the plight of the unsatisfied worshipper. The
sampling of what is called worship delivers a disturbing discordant grinding in
the heart that searches for harmony. Increasing the volume only makes things
worse.
There is something to be said for the
Quaker silence. Quakers consider silence a sacred place, a special and set
apart meeting place — that is where people can encounter the living God. Having
endured many “worship” services, I tend to agree.
Come, Thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise.
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount! I'm fixed upon it,
Mount of Thy redeeming love.
Lord, deliver me from worshiptainment and let me hear Thy still small
voice. AMEN
