HALF OVER
Matt 24:3-6
3 And as he sat
upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell
us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and
of the end of the world?
4 And Jesus
answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall
come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
6 And ye shall
hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these
things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
July first is the 182nd
day of the year with 183 days remaining in this year. Most of us will have
given this little thought, but on July 1, 1863, the pivotal battle of Gettysburg began. It would end with a Union victory and produce an
enormous graveyard. On this day in 70 A.D. Roman Emperor, Titus set up battering rams to assault the walls of Jerusalem. On July first
the first vote on the Declaration of Independence was cast in 1776. Although we
celebrate July 4th, it started on this day.
None of this seems
important today except to remind us that this year is half over. Are all your
plans half realized? What would your life be like if you had changed your mind
halfway through a mistake? What if you had
reversed your course? It is worth a moment of contemplation. The
prodigal’s wisest decision was, “I will arise and go to my father.”
Prov 4:26
26 Ponder the
path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
Blessed art Thou, our God, King of the universe, who grants us wisdom
in the midst of foolishness. AMEN
