DAVID BEN JESSE PART SIX

A HEART FOR GOD

1 Sam 13:14

…the Lord hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the Lord hath commanded him to be captain over his people.

 

2 Sam 7:12-13

12 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.

13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.

 

           It must have been difficult for David to hear God reject his plan to build a temple. The mind spins and lands on the rooftop view of Bathsheba. It spins again and remembers the tears at Ziklag. Through it all, neither the victories nor the failures could destroy the love David had for his Lord.

 

           So it is for God’s servants at the close of life. Too many failures and too few accomplishments are placed in a box as we clean out our desk. Oh, but the fire is still there and the plans for the temple are tucked away in a pocket of the heart.

 

Ps 84:9-11

9 Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed.

10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.

 

Dear Lord, forgive our deeds and confirm our desires. AMEN
