WHAT CAN WE DO NOW?

2 Kings 6:33
33 And while Elisha was talking with them, behold, [the messenger] came to him [and then the king came also]. And [the relenting king] said, This evil is from the Lord! Why should I any longer wait [expecting Him to withdraw His punishment? What, Elisha, can be done now]?

Our story requires almost three chapters to unfold. We don’t have the space to cover that but you should read 2 Kings 6 – 8.

Jehoram, Israel’s king was about to be taught a great lesson and the people would suffer for it. Elisha had prophesied a siege and famine which was fulfilled by the Syrians. The situation was so dire that two mothers had mad a pact to boil and eat their young sons.

Dove’s dung!  The term dove’s dung, in all probability, denotes some kind of common vegetable produce, perhaps a sort of pulse or peas, which was ordinarily very cheap. Such a designation is not unparalleled. The Arabs call the herb kali “sparrow’s dung;” (Elliott’s Commentary).

Sudden relief! God caused a great fear to scatter the armies of Syria. They left everything and their camp was discovered by four desperate lepers. They feasted and had a wonderful time. Then one said to another “we do not well!” They reported their find to Jehoram and the famine was over.

I expect that God is up to something today. Since this current situation is global, I’m certain of it. God now has our attention. We need to be still and listen. We need to humble our hearts before Him. It may be that this blight will recede as suddenly as it arrived.

2 Chron 7:14
14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Dear Lord, all around the globe people are asking “What can we do.” Let us fall on our knees and turn our hearts toward heaven. Lord, hear from Heaven and heal us. AMEN
