MAKING
BIG DECISIONS!
Deut 31:6
6
Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord
thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
Ps 27:14
14
Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart:
wait, I say, on the Lord.
Life
is full of decisions
to be made and some of them are big ones! They present themselves as
“live-or-die” and urgently important. We
bemoan our lack of “good intel” and sufficient resources but the wolf is at the
door and we must use whatever is at our disposal. Wow! That was a lot of mixed
metaphors!
The
point is
that too many people make decisions with their emotions without thinking
through the issues and weighing all the variables. Something will present
itself as a wonderful thing and the giggly giddy emotional people will be –
well, giggly and giddy. I, on the other hand, will often think “This
will not end well.” I often respond like a curmudgeon! I’m old so I
don’t really mind the moniker.
Our
two texts
present us with seemingly opposing positions. One says “strike while the iron
is hot” and the other seems to say “wait, the iron is TOO hot.” I think we
should heed both.
Certainly, if you can’t
discern between right and wrong, don’t choose wrong simply because you are facing
a deadline. Wait!
Dear
Lord, only with your help will I ever be able to be both patient and decisive.
Therefore, help Lord. AMEN
