PRAYER
INCLUDES THANKSGIVING!
1
Thess 5:18
18
In
every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning
you.
As sinners, we are not
people of God by nature. We have no claim upon His mercy or grace.
Nevertheless, He has forgiven our sins, granted us acceptance as His people,
and given us His righteous standing and a new heart and life.
Believers, in contrast,
live thankfully. God has been at work on our behalf in countless ways. So in
everything, even for the discipline that is unpleasant, we give thanks! “Now no
chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless
afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are
exercised thereby.” Heb 12:11
When
we pray,
we should offer thanksgiving for things already received and for the nature and
character of the One who has already given us many things. There are those who
sit down to a feast and gobble up what is there without giving thanks. Others,
with a stronger sensitivity, sit before a few morsels of food and offer thanks
to God for His provision.
James
1:17
17
Every
good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father
of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Dear
Lord, let me always be reminded that yo9u are the giver of all good things.
AMEN
