LET HER DRIVE!
Acts
27:15
15 And when
the ship was caught, and could not bear up into the wind, we let her drive.
No, this is not about allowing your
teenage daughter to apply for her drivers’ license! It’s about letting go of
control. Which is somewhat the same thing.
Paul
was on a ship
headed for Rome when that ship was caught by a storm. It was a storm with a
name! After days and nights of struggle, they cast their fate to the wind.
Literally!
I’m
a bit of a control freak.
I plan, execute, and make adjustments. I struggle with circumstances that do
not respond favorably to my efforts. This often leaves me confused, frustrated
and weary.
They
had jettisoned valuable cargo. Sometimes difficulties cause us to reevaluate what is truly
valuable. Sometimes our stuff weighs us down. They had
also abandoned the sails and the anchors. Our persistent desire to go
forward or stay put is sometimes a disadvantage as well.
Sometimes you just have to “let her drive.”
When all our struggle fails to accomplish our plans, maybe we should just float
on the sea of God’s purposes and allow ourselves to be driven by the winds of
God’s Spirit.
Prov
16:9
9 A man's
heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.
Dear
Lord, I need to be reminded that I am really not in control of very much. Thank
you that you are the One in control. AMEN
