TRUST MEANS CONSTANT CHANGE!
1
Kings 17:2-4
2 And the
word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
3 Get thee
hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is
before Jordan.
4 And it
shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens
to feed thee there.
1
Kings 17:7-9
7 And it
came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no
rain in the land.
8 And the
word of the Lord came unto him, saying,
9 Arise, get
thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have
commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.
If
you decide to trust
the guidance of Jesus then be ready for a life of constant change. Elijah had
just finished a grueling spiritual skirmish with the prophets of Baal. He won
but he was exhausted and spent a couple of days just sleeping. Your pastor may
not dig ditches but, trust me, he does get tired.
God
told him to go to a certain brook and to hide out while the ravens brought him food twice
each day. He would drink from the water of the brook. Does this seem a bit
uncertain to you? Yeah, me too. Nevertheless, Elijah settled into a routine
that became almost comfortable. Then the brook dried up! It was time to move.
The
reward for trusting
was another challenge to trust. There would be no commodious inn with fluffy
comforter and a coffee pot in the room. This time the ravens were replaced by a
poor widow who had nothing to offer. She was not the supply. God
was the supply for both Elijah and her family.
As
you journey with Jesus
you will constantly be challenged with the need to trust Him. This will come in
the form of constant change and dubious solutions to real problems. This lifestyle
is not for the faint of heart but it produces a confident intimacy with God.
Dear
Lord, let my contentment spring from my intimacy with you and not from the
comfort of my circumstances. AMEN
