REMEMBER THE “HINDMOST”
Deut
25:17-18
17 Remember
what Amalek did unto thee by the way, when ye were come forth out of Egypt;
18 How he
met thee by the way, and smote the hindmost of thee, even all
that were feeble behind thee, when thou wast faint and weary; and
he feared not God.
Amalek,
the coward,
attacked the rear of Israel’s column. These were the women, children, old folks,
and sick. The idea in our text is to remember the weaker in our group and
provide them extra care and protection.
Today
begins Thanksgiving week
and there is much to be thankful for. Celebrations are already under way but we
must not forget the hindmost. These are the lonely. If you visit them they will
beg you to stay past your level of comfort. They may live in one or two rooms
of a large house that one was filled with family and laughter. Now it is dark
and cold and dusty. Everything is at arms reach.
Remember
also
those who serve while we celebrate. Hospital workers, firefighters, and police
should be remembered. You can’t imagine how appreciative they are of the
smallest gestures and gifts.
Ps
71:18
18 Now also
when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy
strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.
Dear
Lord, in the midst of my celebrations, let me not forget the forgotten. AMEN
