OCTOBER? SERIOUSLY?
Gen 8:22-9:1
22 While the earth remaineth,
seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and
night shall not cease.
9:1 And God blessed Noah and his
sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.
Here in the southland,
Autumn sneaks up on us. It doesn’t come crashing through the trees like an
early snow storm as Montana is now enduring. It comes softly, like a whisper.
Each sunrise is an overt display meant to cause yesterday’s sunrise to slink
off in defeat. There is an audio aspect to Autumn that can’t be denied. School
children at play a thousand yards away can be easily heard in their cries to
their partners on the go ‘round. Crows call to each other announcing that the
farmer failed to harvest all his grain. Humming birds are tanking up on the
sugar juice hanging from a feeder at the kitchen window. They buzz their
farewell as they compete for the last drop.
The air conditioner is still running but not as welcome as in August and September. My lap throw
is nearby and my fingers are a bit chilled on the keyboard. I glance longingly
at the gas logs in the fireplace as they wait like sentries at a guard station.
I’m tempted but I’ll wait a bit longer.
The cycle of the seasons
is a wonderful gift of our loving God! That promise was sealed by a rainbow in
Noah’s sky. God would no longer destroy the earth with a general flood. The
seasons remind us of the faithfulness of God.
Thank you, faithful God, for the
refreshment of a new season. AMEN
