A DARKENED FOOLISH HEART!

Rom 1:21-23
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

Our degraded and depraved culture did not happen overnight. It happened over time. There was a time, when every photo was black and white, that dads went to work while mom kept house and kids were at school. At the close of the day the family gathered around the table and had dinner – together! They would rehearse their day, perhaps read a scripture and pray, and finish the dishes and chores before bedtime. Yes, life was really like that a long time ago. This was a time when the culture “knew God.”

After awhile the family stopped dinner devotional time. Life became busy. Mom got a job and the kids joined little league and the dishes soured in the sink. God was the first recipient of disrespect followed by parents and finally everyone else. God became an image like corruptible man. Each family member began to worship self. The Bible was replaced by magazines and followed the fashion in them.

What causes the heart to become darkened and foolish? It begins by not glorifying God. It is all downhill from there. The Greek word for foolish is asunetos and it means “unintelligent; by implication wicked.” The word darkened is skotizo which means “obscured.” Think of a person who develops cataracts and does not realize he can’t see well until the cataracts are removed. That which is clear to others are obscured to him.

Isa 5:20-21
20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

Dear Lord cleanse my eyes with the tears of repentance that I might see. AMEN
