SERVING
IN A “TAKE A KNEE” WORLD!
2 Tim 3:1-5
3
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2
For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers,
disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3
Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce,
despisers of those that are good,
4
Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5
Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
We
are currently being bombarded with news of the pro football players
who are “taking a knee” instead of respecting our nation’s flag and all it
stands for. So mentally tormented are these millionaires that their millions
are simply not enough.
Paul
advised young Timothy
that he was headed for perilous times. The word “perilous” is from the Greek chalepos
which means “to reduce in strength.” The idea is that the cultural
circumstances would wear him down.
The
church,
Paul warned, would not be isolated from these cultural upheavals. They would
show up in the members! Selfishness, greediness, pride, rebellion, ingratitude,
and disloyalty would creep into the church. Timothy would be wise to watch for
it. Paul’s advice was to simply “turn away” lest he become like them.
Do
your thoughts and actions reflect God’s Word and the Holy Spirit or have you
been swept up by the stormy culture? If you turn away you will “stick out like
a sore thumb” but you will have peace with yourself and your God.
Dear
Lord, help me to be keenly aware of my relationship with you and my culture.
Help me to be a stand out today. AMEN
