LET US ALSO!

LET US ALSO!

Heb 11:39-12:1
39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:
40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
12 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

America wasn’t simply founded – it was found. Lewis and Clark hiked and hacked their way across an unexplored continent and others forged a new government by correcting the errors of the ones left behind in other cultures. Trailblazers we were! Similarly, the heroes of the faith mentioned in Hebrews chapter eleven explored new territories of trust. There were casualties as we see from verses 39 and 40. Not all were what we would call successful but all were heroes.

Arbitrarily interposed were the chapter and verse numbers! So, if you remove those, you can include the first few verses in chapter twelve to the narrative in chapter eleven. Why would we do that? So that we can get the point of the whole argument. “Wherefore [because of all this] because we have so many heroes watching our progress, let us abandon all those things that would weigh us down, and let us push ahead through the path that was hacked out for us by others.”

We are trailblazers too! We are exploring new territories of trust and others are following behind in the path we pave. That is the sobering thought! If we fail, or if we hack out a crooked path, others will lose their way.

We are following our Hero! Hebrews 12:2 explains that we are to be: “ Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Dear Lord, you left a clear path to follow! Let us do the same for those who come behind. AMEN
