JESUS AND THE BOY SCOUTS AGREE!

JESUS AND THE BOY SCOUTS AGREE!

Matt 24:1-3
24:1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.
2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

The question of the disciples was simple and grew out of Jesus’ announcement regarding the destruction of the Temple. The total devastation that the Master described must surely signal the “end of the world.” The answer of Jesus is contained in the twenty fourth chapter. We can imagine Jesus thinking forward in history known only to him. It was a fearful picture and we are actually experiencing the things mentioned in verses 6 through 8.

Matt 24:6-8
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

I received an email from a close personal friend who is a lawyer, a former judge and a brilliant mind. He offers this suggestion for weathering this gathering storm: “Preserve your capital. Cut back on discretionary spending and hoard your money. Pay down debt as you are able, and try and stay out of debt as much as possible.” The whole idea is to not be caught off guard. Don’t snooze through this troubled time. The Lord is at hand.

1 Thess 5:2-6
2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief .
5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

The Boy Scout’s motto is “always be prepared” and Jesus agrees.

Dear Lord, with confidence only in your sovereignty, I face the challenges of this day unafraid. Thank you for the safety I enjoy in being your blood-bought child. AMEN
