HATING WAITING!
Rom 8:22-23
22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
Two words in the above verses invite us to pursue further investigation. The first is the word “groaneth” which is the Greek word sustenazo (soos-ten-ad’-zo) which means: “to moan jointly; to experience a collective calamity; to groan together.” The other word paints a picture of labor – even the pain of giving birth. It is the word “travaileth” which is the Greek word sunodino (soon-o-dee’-no); which means to sympathize one with another in expectation of a relief from suffering. We understand, then, that the whole creation groans under the weight of sin and its results. We understand that the whole creation exchanges knowing glances and pained expressions of sympathy. The whole creation breathes a sigh of hope saying: “it won’t be very much longer!”
I confess to impatience. I hate to wait especially when a circumstance begs for a change and there seems to be no reason for a delay in relief. The whole creation is sympathetic to my cause. There is a collective sigh whispering through the live oaks. “When will He come?” it seems to say. “How much longer must we wait?” But there is comfort and encouragement from the Word of God.
Heb 10:35-37
35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.
36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.
Dear Lord, my impatient sigh joins chorus with the whole creation. Even so, come quickly. AMEN
