GUARDING OUR FOCUS!

Ps 119:37

37 Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; [worthless things] and quicken thou me in thy way. KJV

There is so much to see! We have become a very visually excited culture. Even churches have had to invest in expensive lighting and staging in order to keep the attention of their members. Gone are the days when church was a simple, one-room, structure with benches and a podium. Unrest quickly sets in when there is nothing to see but the preacher and the cross.

The word vanity is the Hebrew word shav’ which means “evil; morally evil; ruin.” The first thing God did for fallen man was to cover the most sensitive parts of his body. Man had not noticed his nakedness before, but after his eyes were opened he knew that he needed a covering. Fig leaves, although large, were inadequate. The first blood was shed to hide nakedness.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus

Look full in His wonderful face

And the things of earth will grow strangely dim

In the light of His glory and grace

Dear Lord, help me to guard what I see today. AMEN
