THERE IS A STORM COMING!

Hos 8:7a

7 For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind:

           Outside the wind is howling. There is a prediction of a storm. You can sense that it is on the way.

           The Jews had sown the wind by their idolatry and political alliances with neighboring countries but nothing would stop the fierceness of the Assyrian army. The wind had been sown but the whirlwind would be the abundant harvest.

           Those who scatter seeds of sin casually may think life is a breeze and that they are safe from consequences but on the horizon there are dark clouds of retribution. “They [who casually practice Christianity] profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate. (Titus 1:16)

           “Batten down the hatches” is a salty sailor’s term  that is very descriptive. It has a literal meaning. All the deck hatches should be closed tightly because the coming storm will force crashing waves across the deck.

Hos 10:11

12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.

Lord, in your wrath remember mercy. AMEN
