WHAT’S BEHIND THE TARGET?
Isa 55:7-9
7 Let the wicked
forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto
the Lord , and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will
abundantly pardon. 8 For my thoughts
are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord . 9 For as the heavens are higher than
the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your
thoughts.
Every
gun enthusiast knows
to check behind his or her target. Sure, he may hit the target every time but
he also needs to know what is behind the target! How far will the bullet travel
and at what speed? What might be destroyed that the shooter never intended to
destroy?
Robert
Burns
gave definition to “unintended consequences” when he wrote: “The best laid
plans of mice and men often go awry.” We propose but God disposes. This is
particularly true of relationships.
Don’t
plan vengeance
because it belongs to God (Romans 12:19). You may feel justified in your
actions but you need to check behind your target for collateral damage. Who
ELSE might be harmed by the satisfaction of your anger?
Paul’s
advice is hard to take. “Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you,
because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? Why do
ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded?” 1 Cor 6:7
Dear
Lord, let me be sensitive to others and careful with my plans. AMEN
