TAKE
TWO TABLETS AND CALL ME WHEN YOU ARE MOURNING!
Matt 5:17-18
17
Think not that I am come to destroy the
law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18
For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle
shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Too
many people
are floating toward heaven in a cardboard boat and a straw broom paddle. They
think to arrive safely because they are “keeping the Ten Commandments” but have
you actually looked at those commandments? They begin in Exodus 20:3 and continue through verse 17. Let’s look at only three commandments.
Ex 20:14-16
14
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
15
Thou shalt not steal.
16
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
Adultery! Jesus traced
the act to the thoughts of the heart in Matthew 5:28. That being said most, if
not all, of us are guilty.
Theft! Have you ever
stolen anything? Perhaps it was just a pen or paper clip. We are surely guilty
of theft.
Lying! We are guilty
again!
Jesus came to “fulfill” the law. The
word literally means “to cram full and level up” in verse 17. However it is a
different word in verse 18 and means “to bring (it) to pass.” Grace is only
possible when we understand and acknowledge our guilt.
Rom 10:3-4
3
For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their
own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness
of God.
4
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
Dear
Lord, I can not claim innocence of or obedience to any of your commandments. I
am guilty yet you stepped in and paid my debt and took my punishment. Thank you
Lord! AMEN
