CHURCH
AS AN ANCHOR!
Heb 10:23-25
23
Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is
faithful that promised;)
24
And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
25
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is;
but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Tomorrow
is Sunday
and you have probably already decided whether or not you will attend church.
Maybe you have decided to skip church because you have an important event on
your calendar or perhaps you are physically tired and just want to rest. Maybe
there is another reason.
Some
say
they can worship God at home or on the lake fishing. It is true that Jesus said
“they that worship me will worship me in spirit and in truth.” John 4: 24 But worship is not the only
purpose for church.
Bible
education
is also not the only reason for church. Self-directed Bible study is available
to almost everyone today. The printed page and technology has made that
possible but Bible study is not the only reason for church.
The
real reason
for attending church is that it is a safeguard against drifting. Dr. Charles
Stanley says: “We are surrounded by forces that work to blow us off course.
Sheer individual commitment alone is not enough to keep us in line.”
Dear
Lord, let me not drift from the secure moorings of your church. Let me not
abandon the comfort and encouragement of other believers. AMEN
