HOW BIG IS GOD?
Gen 1:1
GENESIS 1 In the beginning God
created the Heaven and the earth.
Rom 11:33
33 O the depth of the riches both of
the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his
ways past finding out!
Every
attempt of man to quantify God ends in failure. Even Star Wars begins with the words: “A long time ago in
a galaxy far, far away.” You see, when we consider the origins of man, we snip a
snapshot from within time and space. God exists outside of time and space. This
makes every attempt futile.
Man was
specifically created within time and space.
Nicodemus confused the issue when he asked “how can a man be born when he is
old?” (John 3:4) Jesus tried to explain in the next chapter to a woman at the
well: “ God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit
and in truth. John 4:24” Humankind does not do well with the invisible,
especially when the Invisible claims superiority.
We only
have two tools with which to resolve the issue. Cognition does arduous research,
within time and space, and fails. Submission yields to the superior being we
call God. Submission walks
away baffled but satisfied. Cognition continues to be proud of its research but
walks away hungry.
Is God
acting in mysterious ways toward you?
Begin now to discover what God is up to. Work hard at knowing what only God
knows and, when you are exhausted, conclude where submission begins.
How big is God? How big and wide His
vast domain?
To try and tell, these lips can only
start.
He’s big enough to rule the mighty
universe.
Yet small enough to live within my
heart.
Dear Lord, thank you for being both
big enough and small enough. AMEN
