A
GOOD MEASURE!
Luke 6:38
38
Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken
together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same
measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
The
church has nothing to sell. What we do have we have been urged to give without
cost. Peter, when meeting the lame man at the gate of the Temple said: “Then
Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the
name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.” Acts
3:6
Although
the church has nothing to sell, the church has expenses. Even Jesus
paid what was then called the Temple tax. He told Peter to go fishing with a
hook and he would find a coin in the fish’s mouth which would be enough to pay
for both he and Peter. (See Matthew 17:27)
The
principle of giving
has to do with an appropriate measure. The widow gave two mites, which was the
smallest coin, and we wonder why she did not give only one. This would have
made her gift 50% of her wealth. But she gave it all because after all it
wasn’t much. Jesus noticed and, I believe, rewarded her.
Dear
Lord, let me give without hope of return or reward. AMEN
