THE RAISING OF
LAZARUS
John 11:11-14
11 These things said he:
and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that
I may awake him out of sleep.
12 Then said his
disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.
13 Howbeit Jesus spake of
his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.
14 Then said Jesus unto
them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
John 12:9-10
9 Much people of the Jews
therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but
that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
10 But the chief
priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death.
It is interesting, isn’t it,
that Jeus sought how He might make Lazarus LIVE, and the chief priests sought
how they might make him DIE. Therin rests the horrible divide between Jesus and
the Jewish leaders. One tends toward life and the other tends toward death.
Examine your lifestyle
for a moment. Mentally follow the things you believe and the things that you do
and see where they lead you. Take drinking as only one example. At first
it is fun and social, and the drink itself lifts the spirit. After awhile it
becomes demanding and controlling. Later balance and reason are lost to
foolishness and stumbling. “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but
the end thereof are the ways of death.” Prov 14:12
John 10:10
10 The thief cometh not,
but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have
life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Dear Lord, help me to
evaluate my lifestyle and rightly determine their value and their end. Let me follow
those things that tend toward life. AMEN
