REMEMBER THE DAYS OF OLD
Deut 32:4-10
4 He is the Rock,
his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without
iniquity, just and right is he.
5 They have
corrupted themselves, their spot is not the spot of his children: they are a
perverse and crooked generation.
6 Do ye thus
requite [repay] the LORD, O foolish people and unwise? is not he thy father
that hath bought thee? hath he not made thee, and established thee?
7 Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask
thy father, and he will shew thee; thy elders, and they will tell thee.
8 When the most
High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam,
he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of
Israel.
9 For the LORD's
portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance.
10 He found him
in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he
instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye. KJV
Remembering can be either
good or bad, depending upon our focus. If we search our minds for disappointments,
we shall surely find many of them but if we search for blessings, we will find
those as well.
Israel had
corrupted themselves because they had forgotten the days when God brought them through “a
desert land and a howling wilderness.” Those days were hard days, but those
days were days of blessing and safety. How they viewed them made all the
difference.
When God divided
the promised land into portions, he kept no portion for himself because God’s
“portion” was his people. We might also argue that God could not give himself a
gift that He did not already own.
The “apple” of the
eye is the pupil. We shield it carefully from damage. This is the way God thought of His
people. Yes, they were a frustrating people, but they belonged to Him. They
were precious to Him.
Isa 63:9
9 In all their
affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his
love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all
the days of old. KJV
Dear Lord, we have been down many winding paths. We have walked
through some very dark valleys, but here we are on the other side both safe and
blessed. Thank you, Lord, for your mercies toward me. AMEN
