BOTH HEAD AND HEART ARE SICK
Isa 1:4-5
4 Ah sinful
nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are
corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of
Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.
5 Why should ye
be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole
head is sick, and the whole heart faint. KJV
Isaiah observed the
worship of his people and saw that they performed their rituals and ordinances “religiously”
but inside their soul had grown tired of it all. What would God say of your
church?
Isaiah properly
identified the causes of this malaise as sin. The word iniquity speaks of unfairness and
selfishness. Corruption speaks of good things twisted and ruined. All this was
a provocation and an annoyance to the Lord. This, of course, brought retribution.
They had been bruised and “spanked” by a loving Heavenly Father but to no
avail. Their heads, both their thoughts and their peace of mind, were sick.
Their heart lost the will to proceed. Sin never improves the sinner.
God now calls them
to “reason together,” to talk it over. If you feel you are right, then prove your case to God.
If not, then try doing things God’s way.
Isa 1:18
18 Come now, and
let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they
shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as
wool. KJV
Dear Savior, I am tired of going through the motions of worship. I
crave a revival in my heart and in my church. AMEN
