EVEN SO
Rev 22:20
20 He which
testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
Of the 57 times the words “even
so” are used in Scripture, this is probably the best known and most used. It is
used in frustration and exasperation by those who understand that the coming of
the Lord involves dramatic changes and most of them are uncomfortable.
The context of this
phrase is the entire 22 chapters of Revelation. The rebuke of the seven churches,
even so, come. The loss of one third of the population of the earth, even so. Strange
happenings and woeful judgements, even so, come.
We invoke the
presence and power of God to fix those things which we have broken, or
those things of ours which have been broken by others. However, when He comes,
he will not be coming as a Savior but a Sovereign. He’s coming to take over. Even
so, come.
We have arrived at the condition
in which simple help is not enough. We need rescue. What we long for is an end of evil and the enthronement of good. Even so, come.
Isa 25:9
9 And it shall be
said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save
us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in
his salvation.
We see it, Lord. We know that as it was in the days of Noah, so shall
it also be in the days of the coming of the Son of Man. We are tired of trying
to hold back the flood. Even so, come. AMEN
