DE SUN DO MOVE
2 Cor 3:18
18 But we all,
with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the
Lord.
Heb 1:10-12
10 And, Thou,
Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens
are the works of thine hands:
11 They shall
perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment.
12 And as a
vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be
changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.
I had a college
professor that often used a curious saying. It was, “The Sun Do Move.” When he
would say that he always had a crooked grin and a twinkle in his eye. Dr. Noel
Smith was a highly intelligent and intuitive man. I think he was born old. He
was a horse-back circuit rider in Tennessee. Quite a character.
Change is universal
and inevitable. I think that is the purpose of Dr. Smith’s quote. A bit of research
revealed the following.
Reverend John Jasper became respected by both Whites and African
Americans alike with his epic sermon in defense of the theory that the sun
actually revolves around the earth using the Bible as his primary source. This
1878 sermon was called “De Sun Do Move and De Earth Am Flat.” I think we should
have more colorful sermons such as this.
Change is both a disappointment and an encouragement. If your circumstance is
idyllic, change would be a bad thing, but change is
the partner of hope. The linear progression of trouble is hope and
confidence.
Rom 5:3-5
…tribulation
worketh patience;
4 And patience,
experience; and experience, hope:
5 And hope maketh
not ashamed;
Mal 3:6
6 For I am the
LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
Brethren, the Sun Do Move, but the Son Do Not!
