THE CENTRAL IMPORTANCE OF PREACHING

2 Tim 4:2-4

2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

1 Cor 1:18

18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

          Preaching! In Timothy, Paul uses the word kerusso which means “to herald as a crier.” In Corinthians, Paul uses the word logos which reminds us that the subject matter is the Divine Expression of the Word or, Christ. John saw the logos as the link that connected every important topic.

John 1:1-5

1 In the beginning was the Word, [the logos] and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

          How fruitless is the church service that leaves the listener feeling better without a reason why. Preaching! It should be central. Time should be reserved for the development of the sermon because it is the power of God UNTO salvation. (Romans 1:16).

Isa 55:1-3

55 Ho, [listen up] every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

2 Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently [listen carefully] unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

3 Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

Lord, bless those churches that put preaching first. AMEN
